There are many forms of Dementia with Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease being two of the most common and widely experienced. Dementia affects individuals in various ways and although this illness is progressive, the rate in which it affects the individual varies which we know can become frustrating, frightening and challenging. Subsequently, the response of those around the affected individual can also vary. Having experienced and understanding well trained care staff can make a real difference to our clients and their loved ones.
As dementia progresses, care needs can change and sometimes this can happen very quickly. Your loved one may develop changes in their personality and their likes and dislikes. Their perception of the world may change and this can make it increasingly difficult for loved ones to support them. We can provide small teams of health care assistants so that your loved one can establish supportive relationships.
This can include helping with daily tasks such as personal care including washing and dressing, administering medication in a safe way, providing balanced meals or making it possible to go out shopping. Some of these everyday tasks will unfortunately be forgotten by your loved one. We actively encourage our clients to be as involved as possible with their care and support so that they can continue to live their lives as safely as possible and in turn provide them with an improved sense of wellbeing.
Research conducted by the Alzheimer’s Society has shown that people who have enjoyed the companionship of animals during their life respond positively to interaction with them, reducing anxiety and agitation. Caring for them offers a sense of purpose and wellbeing. As part of our service we loan our artificial intelligence cats and dogs to people living with Dementia to promote these feelings. We also offer memory stimulation through our reminiscence boxes which can be loaned free of charge.
